Modern life is tough. Heraclitus knew about the changes
I read this quote whilst looking for some inspiration. It’s just so bloody perfect. The full quote is shown below. I hope it also resonates with you when you are over-thinking or forgetting that *It’s just a ride!
“No man ever steps in the same river twice,
for it's not the same river
and he's not the same man.”
Quote by Heraclitus // A Greek philosopher / born in 544 bc
On a personal and professional level… Modern life can be tough at times. Trying to maintain your personal identity, beliefs and values can be one hell of a task. Not because it’s infinitely difficult, but because there are always changes, experiences, ideas, perceptions, ways and new information that challenge who we are and what we are – for good and for bad. Things that affect us along the way can take the wind out of our sails and knock the smile from your eyes. But the only way we can go is forward and work with the challenges. Most of it is about acceptance. And most of it we can’t control.
For anyone who is in the trenches of self-evaluation and improvement do yourself a favour and don’t believe the pulp on socials. That stuff is just to convince the sheep. Most of it is poisonous. Don’t compare yourself to others, it really is the thief of joy. Many of those characters show you a tiny glimpse of their lives with the win lens on. They don’t show you the mistakes, the heartache, the losses and the failures. Where hard lessons were dealt out sharply. If you want to win you often have to lose at some point. And let’s be frank here – winning can mean so many things to so many people.
I believe every human at whatever stage of history could also say the same thing regards their daily challenges as humans. The struggle is the journey, and it’s most definitely real and always has been. Regardless of timeframe, location, lifestyle, class etc, each would have a comparative mini mountain to climb daily, and some a huge summit. We can never underestimate another's experiences or their personal road trip to > here.
Who we are today is not who we may be tomorrow. Like the rest of nature, trying to survive and live life the way we feel we should means we have to constantly adapt. Also taking stock and taking into account what life throws at us and shows us, can certainly makes us change.
Sometimes the mistakes we make are the prompts. They can give us direction and sometimes a shove to a better place. Or they can give us a little more clarity of where we should be and why. That part resides purely with you. Where you are now will change.
I wish you good shit to come on your journey and the mental strength to overcome all challenges. Try and be kind to yourself along the way. Time to get wet.
