Poems and writing – set the feelings free

Image of a poem written by Justin Robert Price, Birmingham, England called There are days about connection, love and the emotions we have that need to be put on paper.

Poetry and writing down where I am and how I feel have been salvation through some tough times and also to accompany the joy of feeling for the good. I’ve kind of seen this take over my art works in some ways over the past 10 years as found the words often flowed easier in the mind when the heart was connected, and they almost needed to be set free or choke me at times. But I know my best pieces of work either Art or poem go together and combine to be a great deal more, as if they need each other to really see a full picture, even if that’s in an abstract one that makes little sense to most.

So what happens to these lines, sentences, words and feelings we impart and let out? Nobody knows. Only that they come out in some cathartic chaos or relaxed semblance of moments in life to frame the essence of people, places and moments that run deep with feelings. I’m sure they will mean something for some and to me.

Maybe all we are trying to do is leave a little of ourselves in the world. Often to prove we were here, and also to maybe comfort, inspire or support others who will feel less alone in their own thinking reading the words. Somehow alignment to form soul connection or emotional allies for the battles we face?

Seasons change and so do situations. Hearts and minds can embrace or give over feelings but what we experience, captured in that sheet of paper, on that note on our mobile or even in a photograph analysed in a different time and place can be pure. Good and bad, my opinion is we need to let the words come out. It’s the very essence of where we are and who we are and what we are feeling. If it’s one thing I’ve learned the hard way its that we suppress a great deal of ‘stuff’ thinking we are doing the right thing, and it’s done nothing for me personally, how about you?

With that in mind – I’m hoping to show more of this work, selectively and tentatively as it’s often very personal. I’m also looking to find ways to connect with others interested in writing poetry / lyrics – wherever they are from. If you know of any good sites, groups or communities you can recommend then please contact me through the form – be great to get some input and insight that doesn’t start with me.
