I was browsing a few key articles online and felt inspired to create a piece of work based on what I'd been affected by. It started as a personal piece as I really wanted to try something new and sharpen a few skills I hadn't used in a while, creating a one off illustrative piece, but felt wise to do for a worthy cause as an end goal #SaveTheArctic.
The subject matter depicts a Polar Bear crying, at it's feet forms a pool of oil with the oil platfroms in the background. At this time organiations were trying to gain the right to drill in the Arctic. Due to it's remoteness if there was a spill or accident the consequences to the ecosystem and the natural inhabitants would be unthinkable.
Once completed, I contacted Greenpeace. A few days later a couple of their representatives in the U.S.A asked if they could use it for their #SaveTheArctic campaign which was run on Facebook. The post featuring the work was liked over 2,000 times and shared to help spread the word. It was an enjoyable challenge and did a little good by raising awareness and boosting signatures for the campaign.
