I think it’s pretty evident the high regard with which I hold musician Peter Broderick and his work… Another musician I’ve fortunately been introduced to via Peters work is David Allred whom I was lucky enough to see play with Peter in 2017. Very much cut from the same cloth – David Allred has a real purity and beauty in-depth within his work.
After the concert I mused, investigated and invested in his solo work and played it a great deal (and still do). I can be a little OCD like that when music connects. Certain tracks got stuck in my head and I literally woke up one night and scribbled a loose version of the DA icon you see finished here which I credited to the playing of his tracks and influence at that time.
The concept and reasoning behind the icon is this… I felt a real resonance of good within Davids songs, content and lyrics. Some tracks were stripped down and what shone out was a real purity and passion. A real good soul! Hence the cap ‘A’ making a loose form of an angel / hero figure with wing / cape detail trailing to left and the all important halo sitting on the carrier base of the cap ‘D’. There was an addition of an open eye within the halo, that is bright and…open. Maybe even third eye seeing. Who knows… I guess I saw this as truth. I find lots of good / honest truth in much of his compositions. They’ve really connected with me at times in a world full of veiled loose truth, as well as enjoying his unique style. It’s an icon that tells a nice story and is personal to the artist himself. Seemed apt it was all red in colour.
If you can please take some time to listen to his work via the Bandcamp link below. It’s really thoughtful and inspiring stuff and worth the investment and time.
